My biggest passion is story, which is no great headline news there! Since completing my MA back in 2020, I realised that theory and analysis was something that came naturally to me, and it wasn’t until I went on The Script Dept. podcast (now OutWrd) to discuss Braveheart that I properly recognised my ability to spot connections and patterns that others might miss.
And I haven’t looked back.
Since then, I have hosted or appeared on dozens of podcasts picking apart film and TV and I bring the same curiosity to my work as an adjudicator for theatre productions.
I love digging into why stories work and why they don’t, how they evolve and what we can learn from them as writers.
Do what you love is something that drives me to hunger for more of this, and it has been wonderful to stretch my legs further and explore archives and study guides along with original texts to discover the evolution of ideas and art.
Adaptation itself is as much about the process of interpreting a script into a production; the choices made between page and screen and the creative decisions that shape what audiences finally experience, as it is from converting a story from one medium to another.
So I am bursting with anticipation for this next upcoming podcast.
We’ll be looking at the film Bob Trevino Likes It (written and directed by Tracie Laymon, 2024). A heartwarming coming of age that, I will confess made me cry. In a good way.
